Our Directors

Ken Neumann, Elinor Yahm and Howard Yahm are the founders of the Center. They all have had extensive training in working with families, have trained and supervised the Center's mediation staff and have been engaged in the private practice of psychotherapy for over 30 years. For more than 19 years each has been doing divorce mediation. Ken and Howard (together with director Steven Abel, and Associates Glenn Dornfeld) have served on the Board of Directors of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation.

Blue Square Kenneth Neumann is an Advanced Practitioner member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, Family Section. He is a founding board member and past president of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, and the Family & Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York. Ken is both a trained family therapist and a licensed school psychologist with 35 years of experience working with families and children going through the divorce process. He is a frequent presenter at conferences and is on the Advisory Board of Divorce magazine.
Blue Square Steven Abel, an Advanced Practitioner member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, Family Section, is a divorce mediator and family law attorney with more than 30 years experience. He is the editor of Federal Family Law and one of the co-authors of The Friendly Divorce Guidebook for New York , articles on divorce law (including "Social Security Retirement Benefits"), and several Blumberg law forms for divorce, including Child Support Worksheets, (Blumberg form A189), required for divorces in New York City courts and widely used throughout the state. He is a past President of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation and was co-editor of its newsletter, "Mediation News." Steve is a founding member of the Board of Directors of the New York State Chapter of AFCC and serves as its President.
Blue Square Howard Yahm, C.S.W., is an Advanced Practitioner member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, Family Section. He holds a certificate in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy from the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and a certificate in marital dispute resolution from the American Arbitration Association. In addition to being a licensed social worker in New York State, he is a fellow of the Society of Clinical Social Work Psychotherapists and a board certified Diplomat in Clinical Social Work. Howard maintains a private practice in psychotherapy and mediation. He has written about divorce mediation and co-authored the book Tying the Knot: A Couples Guide to Emotional Well-Being from Engagement to the Wedding Day.
Blue Square Lynn J. Brustein-Kampel is a family law attorney and mediator. She is co-chair of the legal issues task force of the Women's Commission of the Rockland County Legislator. She is secretary of the Board of Directors of the Rockland County chapter of the New York State Women's Bar Association and past President of the Board of Directors of Volunteer Counseling Service.
Blue Square Elinor Yahm helped found the Center for Mediation & Training. She has practiced mediation for 18 years and holds a certificate in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy from the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. An active member of the women's movement, Elinor is particularly interested in issues of power - and equalizing power - between men and women.

Blue Square Glenn E. Dornfeld, Esq. is past President of both the Board of Directors of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation and the Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York. He is admitted to practice law in New York State and New Jersey, and trains people in divorce mediation through several groups. Glenn's practice consists almost solely of mediated family and divorce cases; he handles no adversarial matters, and is committed to helping clients try to resolve cases creatively, without resorting to litigation.
Blue Square Joseph J. Simonetti, C.S.W. is a divorce mediator and marital and family therapist, Joe received his masters degree in social work from Hunter College, and holds a post-graduate certification from the Ackerman Institute for Family Therapy. He has worked extensively with couples and families, specializing in issues regarding the consequences of separation and divorce.
